James Freakley Edit Design C.V

D.O.B - 24/04/1981

I'm hard working, versatile and highly motivated, with valuable experience in all aspects of the design process.

Graduating from Manchester Metropolitan University in 2004 led me to set up my own business, Edit design, in 2005. Running this business has taught me many lessons, and over the past five years I have come to realise my passion for problem solving, which stems from a deep seated fascination with how things work. I like to question everything and am not scared of trying new techniques and pushing boundaries to achieve the best results.

I have battled with many difficult aspects of building a business from scratch, but have always stayed determined and persevered.

Along with running Edit Design I also run a small construction business with two close friends, set-building and shop-fitting in retail and domestic sectors.

24 Design

I work closely with this design firm as a freelance designer/maker. The work is mainly concerned with problem solving, but I also help them with fitting, manufacture and machine maintenance.

24 Design is a museum and gallery fitting specialist, and often get large jobs that need interactive installations. My role is to design and build many of the interactive pieces, which have to work safely, smoothly and effectively, often requiring much prototyping, problem solving and engineering knowledge. I am given a brief to work to and free reign and responsibility to design the interactive. Recent large projects include a 6 month museum fit out in Ashton under Lyne, called Waterworks, and a giant Kaleidoscope for Manchester Art Gallery that is currently under construction.
